All White Day

As we walked into school there was a wave of white everywhere you looked. As we made our way into the classroom we got ambushed by white face paint, so we matched the rest of the class that had been attacked to. But this was only the start. At lunch we all gathered big and small to watch this incredible game with conflict between the TEACHERS and STUDENTS dun dun dunnn! The students were the first to score but where followed closely by the teachers, as they puffed their way down the field. Lots of hand ball where called as well as outs by the ref that was actually playing on the teachers side. At the last minute the teachers sneaked through the defenders and got that final goal that caught us all by surprise!

All whites white day!

Wow guys I have never seen so much white in my life!!! We were supporting the kiwi team very well, yesterday we really sent the message across! The All Whites did an exceptional job last night with a draw, 1-1 against Slovenia. Also Mapua School has been doing an awesome job supporting the All Whites through the World Cup with "my greatest feat". A super job from all students. Lets keep our fingers crossed in hope for the All Whites in their extraordinary journey of the Fifa World Cup 2010! :)

All the best for the All Whites and we hope they get further than they've ever gone before!!! Keep watching the World Cup and keep supporting your team!

All White Day

''Yeah! Goal!'' On Tuesday the 15th of June 2010, was the All Whites first game of the FIFA World Cup. To support the All Whites Mapua School had an 'all white day' where everyone dressed in white. Also on this day the staff and students squared of in a competitive game of football. The first goal was scored by Storm of the students. Then the staff struck back with a header from Mr Mac. The game was tied then the half time whistle blew. It was a nail biting finish but in the last play Mr Mac took a shot from around 30 meters out and sailed over the goal keepers head and scored in the bottom left hand corner. So that was it, the staff had won.

Speeches

We really enjoyed writing our speeches and practising them then finally we had the chance to speak. Everybody enjoyed it and gave it their best shot and we are really glad to get it over and done with. Everybody's overly anxious to find out their scores for their speeches including us. Speaking in front of our peers was really hard and everybody was nervous. Although everyone did well Lydia and Samuel did exceptionally well and went to deliver their speeches to Room 7 and did a fantastic job their and helped Room 7 come up with new ideas for their speeches. Overall everybody worked really hard to get their speeches done and capped it off with top notch deliveries.

Nikau

speech

Hi my speech was only 2 minutes long. It needed to be 3 minutes so I added in a little bit to make it longer. I did my speech on smoking. It was all right but I was disappointed that it was too short.

speeches

On Tuesday the 8th of June Room 11 had speeches everyone had a great speech although some had to redo them because they were too short. You could tell that no one liked being up there but everyone still tried their hardest.
Room 11 speeches
Room 11 speeches were done on June 8th on Tuesday, everyone got the chills even Mrs Stephens.
From obesity to global warming there were lots of categories, our speeches couldn't be better. From Lydia to Jess it was a long wait. Some people had to change their turns, because of their keynote. I was 6th, but I did it 3-4 times 'cause I didn't reach the time limit, and eventually I was 5 seconds off in the end.
Now I think I should have done more work and known my speech better or it will turn into custard. I wasn't the only one - a few more people had to do it but only twice. In the end my speech about saving the environment would have sunk in because if I heard a speech 3-4 times I would have done anything to help the environment! I think everyone enjoyed it in the end. It was fun.

2010 Speeches

On Tuesday the 8th June, it was time for the 2010 speeches. As everyone got ready for their part to go next, it was finally my turn! I got so scared as Mrs Stephens called me onto the stage, because I had heaps of butterflies in my stomach. But I got used to the idea of being up there, because all I thought of was starting and finishing my speech so I can get though the day without making a big mistake. My speech was about littering and rubbish, and my speech was 3 minutes actually. But I didn't care because I made it anyway! Thanks for reading my speech, I hope you enjoyed it!

By Laura
On Tuesday the 8th of June we had to do speeches. We had been working on our speeches for around four weeks. On the first week we started our speech but only the introduction. On the second week we started looking for information and researching our topics. We ended up taking about three to four weeks. But the end speeches were fantastic and some had keynotes and some didn't. Some people presented their speeches a bit too fast, so they ended up having to do them again. But all in all the speeches were awesome.

Speeches

All our hard work practising our speeches, well most of us anyway, was going to pay off today as we were presenting them to the class!!!! People scrambled to finish their slide shows before the first speech started. Everyone's speech was very well done and practiced except for a few people who got a bit nervous and zoomed quickly through their speeches and were under the time. Repeating some of the speeches wasn't the highlight of the day as we had already heard them. Some slide shows some of us were unable to look at as it was rather graphic because they where trying to get a strong message across. At the end of the day everyone was relieved that it was over and couldn't wait till the year's to come with 5 minutes speeches!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speeches

''So now I ask you, fire, friend or foe.'' And so started the Room 11, 2010 speeches. On this legendary day Room 11 were ready to perform the speeches they had been preparing for the last couple of weeks. Throughout the day there were many great speeches delivered by the class. Some of the speeches fell short of the time limit and they had to redo their speeches, which they were not so happy about. The children where allowed to choose if they wanted to have a slide show but it was not essential. Having a slide show made the speeches easier to understand and gather info from. Overall the speeches were great.

speeches

The speeches went well. Everyone gave it a good go.
Only a few people had to do it again.
Mrs Stephens said ''You all did a great job and we should do it again.''
Some of the best people delivered their speech to Room 7 who I bet enjoyed them.
Over all it was a successful day.

Year8 Speeches

The time had come on Tuesday the 8th when Room 11 had to present their speeches to the rest of the class.
For most of the class, public speaking is a challenge especially in front of their peers. Everyone had interesting subjects to present and they were very informative.
All of the speeches had a topic that caught the classroom attention because they had said about what the students had learnt in the process of making their speeches. Some were even heart breaking to listen to and see the pictures on their slide shows. But they were really fantastic!!!!!
It was very nerve racking being up there and trying to project our voices and do all the thigns we could to make us get good marks for our speeches, it was very hard staring and not embarassing yourself but once you got started you were fine.
There were a few people who were under the stop time and they had to do their last 3 que cards, but all in all the speeches went very well!

The girls winners were Renee Reid in third place, Hayley Reid in second and Alice Reade in first for the girls. It was great to see the support of the children and adults alike. Hi! Wasn't the cross country great! As a photographer I got some awesome shots and heaps of in action photos but the kids were so fast I only saw blurs. Standing at the creek I saw people jumping, falling, jumping for joy and sprinting to the finish. The cross country was at Aranui park
after morning tea. We started our race and i came 7th out out of 7 boooooo but never mind i tryed my best and thats all that matters.

2010 Cross Country :-)

Well guys, you did great in the cross

Lid & Luc :-)
On the 31st of June the whole school walked down to Aranui park.
It wasn't as wet as last year but it was still amazing. Thanks to Mr T we had an awesome cross country. Year 8s went first and we had to do 3 big laps and 1 small lap I was puffed and couldn't go on . Everyone got involved even the parents and teachers especially Mrs Stephens. Over all everyone had a great day.

By Cacilda and Hana
Mapua school went to Aranui park because the cross-country was on the 31st of may the weather was cloudy and every one tried there hardest but there had to be winner's and out of the year 8 boys were first in which Samuel Wilson came first, second was Patrick Hewson, third was Nikau Webster the year 8 girls winners were first Alice read , second was Hayley read and third was Renee read

cross country

The day began just the same as normal except for one thing the cross country was today.
loads of adults and children gathered at Aranui Park to wait until there races were up. Ours was first we ran around the huge track three times and did a mini track once.
We ended up having to run three kilometers (and a half) it was tiring but fun.
I will never forget it.

X-Country

As your feet hit the start line you could feel a buzz of excitement. What place am I going to to come in the Mapua School X-Country? We sprinted at the start with everyone cheering and yelling we pressed on and came to a steady place and found our place in the race. People were obviously cheering for Red!!!!Green!!!! We finished our laps one after another, around the mud in Aranui Park, getting more tired by the speed of each step. We all ducked under the rather low hanging finish sign, with a rather long speed stripe up our backs made of mud that came up from under our soaked feet. A sigh of relief crossed us as we gave our placing to Mrs Barns. The last cross-country at Mapua School for our lifetime!!!!!!

We were lucky enough to win a day with Ruben Wiki, ex rugby league Kiwi's representative, thanks to Alex Rm 7 winning a competition. He arrived and then did not stop all day; from jump jam, to tackle bull rush, talking to kids and signing autographs we were very impressed with his energy and enthusiasm.

MAPUAS AMAZING DISCO!!!

We have the best discos here, because of are awesome House Leaders.
Thank you House Leaders everyone who went to the disco had a great time!!
A big thanks from the rest of Room 11!

Thanks,
Laura and Hayley
The glamours discos

From Black and white to sports the disco has always been awesome with fresh new ideas.
Even the house leaders dressed in the most sporty outfits from cheerleaders to sumo wrestlers I think this disco got everyone thinking.
Even the most unsporty people joined in.

By Cacilda

On Thursday 5th May 2010 Room 11's house leaders organised the awesome disco. The Theme was sports.
We all arrived at the time given; Juniors 5:30 and seniors at 7:00 and stepped inside the Mapua Hall that opened up into a great display of lights
It was so much fun....
The music, the decorations, the lights, everything was great!
This had to be the best disco yet.

School Disco!!!!!

Hi Kynan Red House deputy leader here telling you what a buzz i got from this year disco,it was great! Not to mention your enthusiasm was insane, the noise immense, singing stupefying, and the insanely electrifying dance moves that made you want to get up and dance because even Adam from last years year 8's started busting a few moves

Disco Craziness

The disco what a blast!!!!!!!
The 2010's house leaders first disco, themed sports stars got every one heading to the back of our wardrobe trying yo get the right outfit.
Blowing up the balloons wasn't our favourite part of the night as only a few people could do and wanted to.
The hall was filled with flashing disco lights and a music so loud you had to shout but still you could barely her the words coming out of your own mouth.
Young students leaped through the doors keep to have a night they would never forget.
We boogied all night long with the house leaders encouraging the students to get up on their feet and and break down a few dance moves.
When the light flicked on they reveled what a mess a bunch of excited students could make!!!
After scrubbing the floors clean so they where spotless the house leaders could finally go home and rest their feet. Whew!

My Picasso Art

Hi everyone
This is my Picasso art.
My classroom has been working on Picasso for a few weeks.
We all enjoyed working and doing art.
Art is most of everyone's favorite subject.
We could not have this amazing and fun art work without Miss Bibby Smith!
Thanks Miss B! We all have enjoyed doing art with you!
Hayley

Picasso Art! =)

Hey!
In Room 11 we have been looking at the Art Focus on Picasso. Picasso has created many pieces of art that sell for thousands of dollars around the world. We started of my looking at some of his work to get some inspiration, then we drew, in pencil, a rough idea of where each facial part was going to be placed. Mrs Bibby-Smith ( Our art focus teacher ) gave us a choice of collaging the face or using just pastels. I chose to collage are pastel mine. It was lots of fun and I look forward to creating our next piece of art! =)

Keegan's view on Mad Hair Day...

MAD HAIR DAY
On the first Friday of the term Mapua School had the maddest hair in the whole of New Zealand and nearly every student had a very mad hair do. There were ones with spikes, there were ones with green, ones with red, ones with blue and even ones with yellow. Some had all of them and some had two or three colours. All together it was a fun day for every one.

Easter Egg Hunt 2010 - reflections...

The Easter Egg Hunt was great fun! We dressed up really cool and amazing, as we all painted our faces and we gave our selves bunny ears. We all got little Easter eggs and showed our costumes to the other houses. Every one dressed up even the teachers, it was the best Easter Egg Hunt we have ever had.

THE SCHOOL DISCO!!!!!!!

The theme for the upcoming disco is going to be sport... it's going to be great so start getting some gear ready for the best disco yet. I can't wait for the action block buster!!!$$$$

The nervous wait was about to end. All the speeches had been done and the adrenaline was nerve racking. The House Leader hopefuls sat on the stairs as the assembly went on. The younger students peered up at Mr Chalmers and Mrs Stephens as they were about to call up the first person... Some sighs of relief and some of sadness. The House Leaders were proudly presented with a certificate and a badge. The Blue House Leaders are.... (drum roll please) Patrick, Ellie and Dan (Deputy). The Red House Leaders are (drum roll please) Sam, Alice and Kynan (Deputy). The Yellow....(drum roll please) Lydia, Storm and Lucy .S (Deputy). And finally the Green house Leaders are ... Bridge Valley Camp Recounts

TOO LONG IN THE DARK...

I stepped inside the huge rock climbing tower, with my mind wondering which tunnel to take. I decided that I should take the highest path which, by the way was only reachable by climbing a mini rock climbing wall. I heaved myself up only to find that the inside was pitch black, and that Jeanine, one of my team mates, was lost. So I made my way over to her and asked her how she got lost and she replied that she was following Sam and Storm, two more members of my team, when they went to fast and she lost track of them, and had just realised that she had been going around in circles the whole time. So I stayed with her whilst I made my way to the top of the Bridge Valley Camp Caving System.

As we were making our way to the top, We came across Ellie, another team member, and she asked us if we wanted to play tag with her and the others. As soon as Jeanine and I agreed she tagged me and narrowly escaped without being tagged. as soon as she was out of view I turned around only to find that Jeanine had narrowly escaped just as Ellie had previously done. Meaning that I was alone in a dark tunnel.

As soon as I got up, because I decided that i should actually try and tag someone,I fell through a hole that Jeanine and I had previously climbed through. When I recovered from the fall I made my way around the maze of tunnels until I reached the highest point at 9 meters so I made my way back down the tower. All the while there was still no sign of any of my team members.
When I got to the bottom I found EVERYBODY in my group sitting or standing outside the tower. I went to go and sit beside Ellie and ask her why every body was out here. She replied by saying...YOU TOOK TO LONG!!!

WILD RIDE

WOW they looked wicked! My heart was pounding! I reckon that they looked so much better than the ones that were at Tea Pot Valley! I was so excited! I couldn’t wait to have a go! The loud and roaring engines were on and ready to go. My heart was pounding like I just had the fright of my life.
It was the second day and the first activity. What fun they had looked.

When we walked down we heard a loud and gigantic roar from the engine. That made me just about wet myself because the noise was so frightening and I also had just drunk a lot of water. The Go-Karts looked like they were going to go fast. The track looked a bit bumpy and the conners looked like they will be hard to get around. I thought that they were going to be a bit of a challenge. But it still looked fun. I reckoned that they were going to be amazing. I was going to burst of excitement in a few minutes.

We had to choose a partner to ride with. I went with Alice. After we had chosen a partner we lined up. Alice and I were the first to get out of the gate and then it was jake and Jordan .
We hopped in the blue and they hopped in the red. We hopped in and my heart was pounding so hard my head was thumping! I was first to drive. I thought that Alice wasn’t going to trust to drive by the look that she had on her face.

One of the staff from Bridge Valley was watching, explaining how to use it and the rules. His name was Roddy and he was very cool. We were first to get ready so Roddy came over to us before he went to the boys. When he was explaining the the rules I thought in my head that I was going to die. But when he told how to use the car I was ready to push the peddle down as hard as I could. And then he said you can go and we were off!! We went screaming all the way around the corner and up the little hill. I slowed down up the hill and then we came to a stopped. I was pushing the peddle down as hard as I could but we weren’t getting anywhere. We started to wave our hands around and yelled. Roddy came and told me that I have to put the peddle down the whole way down to be able to get up the hill. So he had to give us a push to get started again.

I thought that I had broken the peddle and that we wouldn’t be able to carry on. Also thought that I had ruined the Go- Kart. It was only that we weren’t going fast enough. Alice was screaming the whole way and she didn’t look like she was very safe withe the look that was on her face. One more lap to go. Time to speed up and finish my go!!!Just about there and I was going as fast as I could. We came to the stopping point were Roddy was. Roddy said to put the breaks on and turn the steering wheel to the side. So I did turn the steering wheel to the side but I forgot to put on the breaks and I went up the bank!OOPS!!! My turn has now finish and its Alice’s turn.

WOW it was fun and scary I thought that I was going to die and not to be able to control the steering wheel. I had scared Alice with my very great driving skills. We were screaming most the ride and I got a very sore throat. I had a blast!! I hoped that Alice did too.

Mad Hair Day

On the first Friday back, we had Mad Hair Day! Everyone got into the school spirit, as each and every student came to school in a crazy sort of hair style. It all started after lunch, but we had to take photos of ourselfs as we sat down by the big tree getting ready to start the parade. First was YELLOW! Second was RED! Third was GREEN! And last but not lest BLUE! Every house had been and had the judging under way. There were heaps of winners, the House Leaders just could not choose! After the parade we all went back to our classrooms, and sat down at our desk to wait for one more thing......
THE BELL!!

Picaso Art

This term we are creating a Art exhibition full of master pieces. To start off we did portraits of a person in the class, then we moved onto Picaso Art. We first tried to draw without looking a profile face and then top we did over a portrait face in two different coloured markers. These turned out to look like a big scribble!!!!!! Then we started to get serious. Mrs B demonstrated how to draw a outline and shapes on Alice it didn't really look like her in a way but certainly looked interesting. Then we all had a go trying to get a shape that would be Picaso like and not real life. When we look at each others we don't really know who it is, but they certainly look very colourful and odd.
