Braden's goal is to have as much fun and learn as much as I can in the time given because it is the last term before I go to high school so this may be the last time I see my class mates in years.

OK, well, it's Term 4! Wow! What a fast year. It's just zoomed by! This is the fourth and final term of the year. And it's only 7 seven weeks! Yeah! Joking. Anyway, here are our goals for this very, very short term:

Zarek's goal:

Make this the best term of my life, because it is my last term at Mapua School. I am devastated to be leaving. I want this to be the best term ever. And I aim to make the best out of everything. To get out of the term what I put in, which is a lot. I really have had the best education that anyone could ever receive.

Lara's goal:

My term 4 goal is to strive to be the best at athletics, and try to get into the relay teams so that I can represent the school in our Athletics day. I want to be the best because I am very passionate about sport, and feel that you should always enjoy and try your best at everything!

We have started careers for our last term before we go to a next stage in life which is a night mare,college DA DA DA.
We are making a visual image of what we would do when we are older.
For careers day Dylan is thinking of going to an aquarium and jade is going to go to a joiner for the day.

You only get out of life what you put into it. That is our teachers favourite motto, it practically means that you can't expect things to happen without trying, you can only achieve something if you work for it. So for us Yr 8s, this is the term to work hard to achieve our goals at Mapua school.

Emily's Goals ;
I would like to get at least three '3s' at athletics day, that is the highest amount of points you can get for each individual activity.
It would be fantastic to get good scores for my high school tests.
When I go to my work experience, to get involved in the activities and be able to do the job properly and efficiently.

Laura's Goals ;
I would love to get at least two 'excellence' in my report this year.
To get into the talent quest and come 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.
When the tests for high school come around I would be over joyed to get great scores.
To get another maths award at the awards assembly.

Well it is sad that this is the last term for us at Mapua School, but hopefully we will achieve our goals.

Georgia's goals
This term I hope to get a better score for Athletics than I did last year. I am also really looking forward to starting our careers unit and going to the careers expo. Another thing I am excited about this term are the Whenua Iti overnight stay for the house leaders and looking forward to the Aquatic centre and rabbit island trip.

Harriett's goals
This Term I am aiming to get the most improved cup for my maths. I think I have greatly improved in self-confidence and my written work. I have been spending a lot of spare time at home (both this year and last year) going on online games and going over things I don't understand by doing more of it. I used to have to go up to the teachers desk A LOT during maths time because I could work out the problem, but now that rarely happens. It would be a really great end to my last year at Mapua School. I will have felt that I had really achieved something.

I would like to get a 3 in at least one of the events in Athletics. I would also like to get in the top 10 for the Talent Quest. I would also like to get a 2 in high jump because I normally only get a 1. In the disco I would also like to do some more of the announcing on the stage.

Owen:

I would like to make it over the high jump and get a very high score in the long jump at the Athletics. I want our band to play well at the rock fest.

Eden's goal: My goal for this term is to improve my fitness skills so I'm ready for athletics, another goal of mine is to improve on my mathematics. I also would like to be the best I can at singing and piano/keyboard so I can perform well at the talent quest.

Eva's goal: My goal is to complete the level I am in, in chinese and to pass my exams so I can move onto the next level. My goal for school is to improve on my dance with Laura for the upcoming Talent Quest.

Our goals for this term are to get through the class auditions and and if so do well in the big talent quest. To achieve this goal we will work hard, practise a lot and be all we can when we preform. We will work hard on our weaknesses and improve on our strenghts to perfect our performance.

Another goal we are both striving to reach is to get the the most out of the one day that we spend at out chosen work place on the topic of careers. We will make sure we achieve this goal by listening and absorbing all the needed and important information.

I want to improve my guitar skills so that my band and I can perform with confidence and sound good, I have lessons every Thursday at school, so this should be achievable.

I also want to achieve well academically, do my best in all subjects and improve my strengths and weaknesses.

I would like to compete in the Nelson A&P Show with my dog in the dog handling category and come in one of the placing, he knows a few tricks, but I'd like to teach him more.

Careers day is next week and I am going to Halifax, a vet in Nelson, to hopefully gain some knowledge of what it is like to be a vet and learn some helpful tips on how to become a good one.

I would like to be able to play the drums so that when the band of four that we are more than amazing when we perform.

I would also like to be a bit of a mathematician so i want to achieve as much as i can in maths and learn as much math as possible and not get board of it.

Also one other thing I'd like to achieve is that i be, maybe not the fastest but one of the fastest people in the school so that at athletics so I can be useful for the school and know that I've done something for the school

Revenge on the Vegies

We did "Which vegetable burns the quickest?" for our science fair experiment. We decided to do this experiment because we aren't humongous fans of vegetables and we just thought we'd try and get them back for all of the times we have been forced to eat them.

Yes, we're talking to you broccoli! But we actually didn't use broccoli in our experiment. All of the vegetables that we burnt were: Onion, cucumber, capsicum, avocado, carrot, lettuce, eggplant, pumpkin and potato. We burnt them in a pan over flames. (No oil in the pan.)

The results (These are the order in which they burnt. From 1st burnt being the one that burn the quickest and 9th burnt being the one that took the longest amount of time to burn):

1st Burnt = Lettuce
2nd Burnt = Capsicum
3rd Burnt = Eggplant
4th Burnt = Onion
5ht Burnt = Cucumber
6th Burnt = Avocado
7th Burnt = Potato
8th Burnt = Carrot
9th Burnt = Pumpkin

We found out a lot of things including that lettuce was the vegetable that took the shortest amount of time to burn and that pumpkin took the longest amount of time to burn. We found out that capsicum and eggplant skins are similar than we thought they were. And we also learnt that what is inside the avocado is oil, not water or juice.

our partnership was one thing that worked very well. We both co-operated and helped each other. Another thing that worked well, and payed off, was how the science board looked. We received a lot of compliments about the look and colour of our science fair board. And people could tell how much effort we put in to make it look all flash and pretty.

We found that getting everything done on time was quite a challenge. We only had a few days to run the tests, type up the information and border it and tape it onto the board. But it was worth it in the end.

This term we have been working on the science fair.We split into groups and decided on what we will do our project on.We decided to do a test on model boats. After we tested them we found out that Owens boat design worked the best in wind, Dylan's boat design work best in waves and Jades boat design work best in calm waters for a long time.

For the last few weeks, the whole of Mapua school has been doing science experiments for the annual Nelson Science Fair. Here is our story:

We (Kelly, Eva and Emma) decided on doing our experiment on chocolate!!! We surfed the net looking for some ideas and found the one we wanted: Which cadbury chocolate flavour is the best to use when modeling chocolate?

Once we had our question, we started to think of how we would judge the chocolates and what method we would use. We came up with three categories for testing- Fastest to Melt, Fastest to Set and Best Looking.

We then decided that our method would be to put a small plastic bowl in a bigger plastic bowl fill of boiling water and time how long it takes the chocolate to melt. We then would put the melted chocolate into the chosen moulds, place it in the freezer and time how long it takes to set. And finally, we would judge the appearance of the finished chocolate by looking at the outside, and then cutting it in half and looking at the inside. We rated the appearance out of 15.

We found the averages of all the tests (we did 3 tests for each chocolate in each category)

and then figured out the overall winner. The winner was dark chocolate, so if you are ever modeling chocolate, then use dark because it is the best thing when it comes to the easiest and best looking chocolates!

Although we didn’t make it into the Nelson Science Fair, we had a great time working in our experiment, and we definitely enjoyed eating it!

TO RISE OR NOT TO RISE?

We have spent this term completing some science boards that we displayed at the school science fair last Friday with the winnners going through to Stoke Science Fair which is held at the stoke Memorial Hall and all the schools around the region compete in. We did our science display board about which type of yeast makes bread rise the most. We had three different types of yeast Edmonds Surebake, Edmonds Active and Tasti yeast. The best yeast turned out to be the Edmonds Surebake the second best was Edmonds Active and in third place was the Tasti which turned out not very nice and it didn't look nice either. We found it a bit difficult having a limited time to complete our experiment but we managed to do it and only missed out by one point on getting through to the Stoke Science Fair.

Who needs soil?

For the past few weeks Room 11 has been working on the Mapua School Science Fair. We got into groups of three or two and each worked on our chosen science project. Our group, Emily, Jasmin and Eden worked on the project 'Who needs soil?'. Our question was 'What substance can watercress grow in other than soil?' and our hard work paid off, our group got into the Nelson Science Fair! We were so proud of our effort and determination, (in the class we were the second ones to finish!).

Some Like It Hot!

About 5 weeks ago laura and I decided on what we were going to do for science fair. Our amazing idea was What temperature out of boiling water at 9o'c warm water at 50'c room temperature at 30'c and ice cold at 10'c would keep a cut flower alive for the longest. Laura and I decided on this experiment because we thought it would be useful to know if there would be any way of preserving cut flower for longer. For the experiment we had 12 plastic cups 3 for temperature, we put 1/2 cup of water into each cup and then put 1 daffodil into each , we then changed the water every day at 10.20 am to heat it u or cool it down again. The results were that the boiling water killed the flowers within 4 days, the warm water killed the flowers within 5 days and so did the room temperature but the ice cold water kept the flowers almost perfect until the experiment was over. We found out that the reason the boiling water, warm and room temperature killed the flowers more quickly was because it excites the oxogen and lets it out while the waters boiling so there is not enough oxogen for the plant to survive. Laura and I think that we did quite well on our project and we really want to find out more about why there is not as much oxogen ing boiling water as cold. BUt overall Laura and I had a lot of fun doing our experiment and we can't wait until next time

To Glow Or Not To Glow

For the past couple of weeks Mapua School has been frantically getting ready for the Science Fair Expo day on Friday 9th September. In rooms 2,3,4 and 14 the classes have each entered a entry for the Mapua School Science Fair (MSSF). In the rest of the classrooms some friends were pair up in groups of 2's, 3's and 4's. Only eleven groups could get into the Nelson Science Fair.

Max and Isaac's science investigation starts here:

Our science fair investigation was about if a normal light would charge electrons more than a red light. To carry out the experiments we set up a light (one was normal and one was red) in a box and had a video camera filming the glow in the dark stars to see the reaction. We left the camera filming for about 2 and a 1/2 hours; After the 2 and a 1/2 hour we would check the video on the video camera.

Last Friday, 2011 science fair took place at Mapua school, after long weeks of hard work our science fair project came together. We came to the idea of can sugar beat fertiliser at growing plants because we thought it would be a good idea so that farmers can mass produce their crops at a cheaper cost, and we finally started our testing. After one week we had the results as we thought the fertiliser won but the sugar feed plants were tastier. We put lots of effort into our project and in the end it came to us not getting into the nelson fair and a chance to win some money. By Flynn & Jake

Feel it burn

This term we have been doing science which meant that we had to do a science experiment. Our experiment was what cooking oil catches on fire the fastest. We used the following oils, canola,sunflower,olive and rice-bran oil. After experimenting we found out that rice-bran oil is the safest oil, then olive oil is the second safest and then in third was canola and sunflower oil. The judges thought that we should be one of the three teams to go to the Nelson science fair.

Reding, relaxing, pjamas and fire

Flames flying, pyjamas burning and lots of typing to complete and present our science fair board. Our science fair project was " Which Pyjama fabric caught on fire the quickest. "

We tested 4 types of fabric which were polyester, nylon, satin and cotton. After we had completed 4 fair tests we discovered and average our results. The results were cotton burnt the fastest and we thought this was because cotton is a natural fibre and the thread is quite thin and soft. Satin burnt the second fastest. We thought that satin would burn the slowest because we predicted that it would just crumple up before it started burning. Nylon and polyester burnt the slowest. In our hypothesise we predict that polyester would burn the second fastest. we thought that polyester and nylon burnt the slowest because polyester is a synthetic fabric and it has a plastic type compound consisting of many different esters, blended together and formed into strings. Nylon also burnt the slowest and thought this was because nylon is also a synthetic fabric which is made of petroleum products and polymer.

We found that the most difficult stepping stones in this prosess was finishing on time, The tongs we were holding the fabric with were wonky and it was hard and getting our presentation right.

We worked together did our fair share of work and as a result of that we got placed in the top 3 out of yr 7&8 and we are now going to represent Mapua School in the Nelson science fair competition!!!

The SPCA Cupcake Day

This year, Mapua School is taking part in the annual SPCA Cupcake Day. This a fundraiser, and all the money goes towards the animals have yummy treats and any operations they may need to help them get better.
To participate, all you have to do is dust off your mixing bowls and get baking some scrummy cupcakes.
Last year it was a big hit and we raised lots of money for the animals in need, and we hope to do so again this year. Harriett and Emma from Room 11 have been organizing it this year.
"It's great to see so many keen bakers wanting to participate" says Harriett.
So get baking or buying to support the animals in need!

Construction on the New Classroom (Room 12)

Bang! Bang! Bang! That's all we hear these days! Plus a few, 'screeching saw' noises. Construction on Room 12 has begun. And it's right outside Room 11! For the past two days, we haven't been able to look outside without seeing the great big, orange fence barrier guarding the construction site. Or men walking around with great big, steel poles. And on day 1 there was a ginormous digger out there. Let me tell you something, the workers have really set up camp. They have their own little shed that holds all of their little (and big) 'toys'. They have trucks, they have a fence. My golly, they have a little moat surrounding the 'island' of posts that mark where the classroom's going. Yesterday, there were huge hammer-head thumps on the outside of our classroom's wall. During reading time!!! The classroom is planned to be finished halfway through Term 4. I don't think I can cope that long with all of the noise that is flooding the school. Oh well, I guess I can't do anything about it until it is finished. I can't wait to se what it looks like when it is finished.

We arrived at school on Monday morning to see the giant rugby posts towering over the new hockey and rugby field. The field has been out of bounds for the last term and a half and it's finally done, plus we have rugby posts to go with, so it's a double bonus! For the last few days the bottom field has been covered in children and flying balls, this is the best place to be at morning tea and lunch times at Mapua School!

Winter Tournament

This month we have been practicing extra hard for the upcoming sports events. We have three tournaments heading our way, the winter tournament, the 7 aside tournament and the Takaka sports exchange. The teachers offered us a chance to play any of the four sports (hockey, netball, soccer and rugby) and we then got into groups inside those categories and practiced really hard. The different sports have a mix of boys and girls, yr5-6 and it is great to see the newcomers giving everything a go!

This week Room 11 has been juggling in Room 7 most of us are just starting to juggle but a few of us already know how to juggle. The skittles are the hardest to juggle but Jasmin can juggle them. Max and I can juggle balls. A few people can spin the plates but most people can only just juggle scarfs.

Pause, Touch, Engage and the ribbon was cut! Finally the back field was open, after a long wait of a term and a bit. Each classroom one by one ran through the new rugby posts cheering and smiling for the camera. Every one raced to get in the line to get their favorite flavor juicy. Hokey Pokey

Monday was an exciting day in room 11. We made Hokey Pokey with ice cream!!! We had to mix the ingredients (golden syrup, brown sugar and baking soda) together and then put them on a gas or meths stove and mix them until they were smooth and creamy. Then we poured it into our bowl and let it cool. Afterwards we got a spoonful of ice cream to go with it. It tasted really good with ice cream but after a while it got sickly and didn't leave a very nice after taste. By Georgia

This was the day that we made,HOKEY POKEY!

It started off a glorious day, the sun was shinning, a high of 18 degrees, perfect for Hokey Pokey.

We started of with making a tin foil plate for cooking the
Hokey Pokey, added all our secret ingredients for our super Hokey Pokey!!!!

Making hokey pokey

We were experimenting with the method of science and in the process we got to make hokey pokey. We had to bring in a bowl, tongs, a wooden spoon and (optional) a gas cooker. We got into pairs and made a bowl out of tin foil. We had to write down the steps of making hokey pokey and then Mrs Stephens gave us the ingredients. Once the sugar and golden syrup was on the heat, we had to constantly stir it until the sugar dissolved and then quickly add baking soda into the mixture, and that's when the chemical reaction happened. It was meant to go all fluffy (but ours didn't!)
We then let it cool for about five minutes and then came Mrs Stephens with big whollops of ice cream and slopped it into our bowls.
So all in all we had a great time making hokey pokey and we learnt a lot about chemical reactions and the science behind it.

Do the Hokey Pokey

Bowls, spoons, tongs and gas cookers crowded Room 11 on Monday afternoon,
the class was finally ready to begin the expedition to make Hokey Pokey. First we made containers out of tin foil, then we put sugar and golden syrup into the container and stirred it over the heat until the sugar was dissolved, quickly we took it off the heat and stirred in some baking soda, this made it go a golden colour and changed the consistency. Next we poured it into some bowls and toped off with two scoops of vanilla ice-cream. Let us just tell you it was delicious. As we left the classroom at the end of the day the fresh smell of burnt carpet driffed out into the courtyard.

HOKEY POKEY WITH FLYNN

On Monday 8th August Room 11 Make Hokey Pokey.
Focusing in on the method
Hokey Pokey
1.Get some tin foil and make into a robust container with high sides.
2.Carefully organise your stove and metal holder.
3.Place one table spoon of golden syrup and two tablespoons of sugar in the metal.
4.Stir sugar until dissolved and mixture boiled and remove from heat.
5.Add half a teaspoon of baking soda and stir quickly.
6.Allow to cool and eat with lots of ice-cream.

Making hokey pokey was lot's of fun and a good activity to bake in a group. I think that it was nice apart from it setting and not being able to eat it and it's not hard to make either.

On Monday, we made Hokey Pokey for a very tasty science experiment. Now, we know what you're thinking; Hokey Pokey for a science experiment? The reason we made our delicious creation was to investigate how different chemicals react to each other. We made the Hokey Pokey by shaping tin foil into a sturdy, square 'container'. Then poured in a lot of sweet golden syrup. Then plopped a load of brown sugar on top. After that, we turned the portable camp stove on and held the mixture over the flames. The thing is, the flames kept going out!!! We had to relight the stove about three times!!! And after it was lit and stayed lit, it was like a ginormous wildfire. We thought it was going to set the carpet on fire. It did!!! Just kidding. While it was over the raging fire, we kept stirring until the 'potion' was a flowing liquid. We swiftly swiped the concoction off of the heat and threw in some baking soda. We had to stir really, really fast so no air bubbles were trapped inside and so no baking powder was left unstirred. It felt like our arms would fall right out of their sockets!!! They did!!! Just kidding. Once we put the baking soda in, it turned a nice, lush, golden-brown colour. Then, we dished out the marvelous, vanilla ice-cream and ate with delight. When we finished eating, we had to wash the dishes (ugh), that was the most challenging part; the Hockey Pockey stuck to the plate! It was rock solid! Like a limpet. We packed up all of the stoves, and to our surprise and horror, Mrs. Stephens burnt a hole in the carpet!!! And we're not kidding this time. There was no flames, just a big, black, dark hole. We knew we were supposed to use the stoves outside!

For science we made Hokey pokey to practice the method and a fun experiment and it was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo yummy. We had to make a makeshift bowl out of tinfoil and put in some golden syrup, brown sugar. Then we put it over a gas flame and stirred it till it boiled. Once it started to boil we had to add a teaspoon of baking soda and stir quickly. Mrs Stephens spoiled us by bringing some icecream to have with the hokey pokey.

Mrs Stephens was very naughty because she burnt a hole in the carpet.

Oh my Hokey Pokey

"Yummy!" Was was the thought in everyone's heads on Monday the 7th of August.
We had just spent the whole day doing the same old schoolwork and being impatient to start our experiment with Hokey Pokey.
The first step to our delicious treat was pouring two tablespoons of oozing golden syrup into our tinfoil bowls ( which we made ), then adding 4 tablespoons of sweet sugar with the golden syrup. After placing our ingredients into our bowls, we turned on our gas/meths portable cookers, with our pairs sorted out whos would hold the tongs wchich would be holding the tinfoil plate, and who would constantly stir the mixture until it had boiled together. After our patience would last no longer, we would gently remove the Hokey Pokey from the heat and quickly add 1 teaspoon of baking powder into the cooling Hokey Pokey to make it foamy and scrumptious. Once the mixture and bakingsoda had combined, we split the hokey pokey into two ( because we did the activity in partners ), we poured it into our bowls and qued up for the orginaly but loved vanilla ice-cream.

Dance!

Yesterday afternoon, Mrs.Bibby-Smith instructed us to create a dance centered around Chaos(but controlled!) We had to include the movements Strength, Love and Cramped. First we experimented by ourselves in our own space, and then we got into groups and started to come up with a routine.
Everyone stood up in front of the class and shared what they had created. There were lots of different heights and locomotive movements. We had to be joined together in some way at the start and the end. It was really great fun performing in front of everyone else(if a bit embarrassing) and great to watch everyone else.

Hokey pokey

Making hokey pokey was fun and intense at the same time. There were so many things that could go wrong and nearly all of those things came true. We were yelling and shouting at each other because we didn't realise how fast it set once you put the baking soda in and before you know it, it goes rock hard and is almost impossible to scrape it off the bottom of the bowl. There were many things that we learnt from this experiment but the best thing was that the teacher bought ice cream to go with it mmmmm yummy!!!

My thoughts on the production - A Magical Mystery Tour

I loved the experience that I experienced when taking on the roll as The Builder in our class play - The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
I have been in the other two productions, but I never actually said anything, I mainly danced but sometimes sang in a group, so I was rather nervous this year because I wasn't sure how I'd react to having a live audience in front of me while I was acting. The main reason as to why I was nervous, as I have never been very good at speeches and tend to speak very fast.
I ended up loving being on stage, working with others in my class and just wanted nothing more than to do it again. My most memorable moment would probably be when the play started and us five villagers are standing behind a piece of cardboard, hearing the music start, dancing to the front of the stage and hearing the audience laugh, definitely a favorite moment.

My thoughts on the Production last term!!!

Ok, well as some of you already know we had our production on the last week of term. The theme was based around The Beatles and no not the bug, it was the most amazing band of all time you know!!

Our play was The Pied Piper Of Hamelin, it's a rather sad story. I was the narrator it was kind of scary because I am not much of a public speaker but I guess it was good for me, because it was one of my goals for last term.

On the Dress rehearsal I had a last line after they chased the mayor out of town (That was apart of our play) and every one started clapping so I had to wait for them to stop then I said my line so they had to clap twice. On the Wednesday performance it was a full house. That was the most scariest thing because my family was there and so the most I spoke was in the scene that my class was in when they stopped into a freeze frame and most of the audience looked at me when I spoke.=(

At the end when everyone had down their performance we all came into the hall for the finale and sang Revolution, Let it be and Yellow Submarine.

All together I had a fun time making the play with my class mates and teacher. I think we all did a great job.

Everyone wanted to know what their play was in the classes. Our class did the Pied Piper of Hamelin. We worked really hard for day one of our play, we had to come up with ideas on how our play should start. Then we got sent into little groups; The music group, the script writing group, the dancing group and the costume group. Lots of people tried out for the main parts but there could only be 9 main characters. After a long think Mrs B and Mrs S came up with a decision.

After 2 weeks of hard practicing we were finally ready for the production. All the costumes were done, the backdrop was ready, the dances were great and we were ready.
On the night everyone was nervous even the teachers, waiting back stage was very nerve racking for everyone as well.

All the hard work was worth it though because the audience loved it!!!!!!!!

And this is how cool we looked!!!

Isaac's First Day of Term 3

Getting up on Monday morning at 7 am was tiring but I eventually dragged myself out of bed and got ready for the school day.

When I arrived at school so many people were talking about their holidays. The morning started off like a usual Monday morning but halfway through the day Emma and Zarek started to go quite mad because they found out that they were one of the School Is Cool Finalists.

I had to rush to school after I had slept in to 5.00am. Some people think school is boring but I like it because it's more fun than staying at home with my brother. When I arrived at school no one was in the class because it was the first day of term 3.

We are looking forward to Term 3 because of the new achievements in store for us, learning more about science and the way it works as well as the Science Fair.
For The Arts this term we are learning more about dance, it should be a great experience and a whole heap of fun!
Winter Sports is our sports focus this term, we hope that we will learn a few new tricks and do well at the tournament.
We are not quite sure what Google Docs is so we can't wait to learn more about them.

Even though I have had great holidays, I am glad to be back at school for another new Term. It's great to be able to see all my friends again. This Term, I am really looking forward to Science Fair and the Science Expo. It should be really great to learn more about how scientists work.
I am also looking forward to going to all the open evenings of the college's, and seeing what opportunities they all have to offer.

School Is Cool!

Last term everyone in our class created a poster or video of their own on why we think school is so cool. We then entered them in the "school is cool" competition and waited for the finalists to be announced on the 1st of August 2011 (first day of Term 3). Our group (Zarek, Kelly and Emma) entered a nerdy news report on why WE think school is cool, there were also a lot of posters entered from the other students. The end result was great, our video made it into the 20 finalists for the videos of all ages. Also, Emma's and Eva's got their posters chosen to be in the finals for the Year 7 posters. We are part way through an in depth novel study in Room 11. We got to select a novel to focus on for the term from The Power of One, Mao's Last Dancer and The Loblolly Boy. We are given a range of pages to read each week, then we discuss the different aspects of the book in our group looking at inference before we have to use other reading strategies (visualisation and author's purpose) to show our understanding of the novel. If we have time we also use our HOTS by selecting activities from our Blooms Novel Study.

As you can see, we are all comfortable reading in a wide range of positions and places.

Hi I'm Flynn and I am looking forward to Summer Tournament this year.
I would like to think that it will be fun and that it will have good rules on the games.
The best game in it that I like is Play Ball, a smaller version of Softball.

The Summer Tournament is only six days away and Mapua is determined to get a placing, so watch out other schools here we come! This event is for year 7 and 8 students only and just a fun day away from school. For this sporting event there are some that like the different sports being played but some that don't. The three sports that we are participating in are, Ultimate Frisbee, Play ball (a modified version of Softball) and Volleyball. Most of the schools in the tasman region put 2 to 3 teams in to compete. The Summer Tournament has been running for a least 10 years now and it will hopefully be running for many more considering that so many people enjoy it.

The upcoming Tuesday, we will be traveling to Goodman's Reserve, Motueka to play in the Summer Tournament. The Summer Tournament is a fun and exciting event where all of the schools in the Motueka area come together and compete in three different sports. The three sports are Playball, Volleyball and Ultimate frisbee. All the schools pick teams to compete against each other. The team that wins at all the different sports wins the whole event. We are all busy practicing our skills for the tournament. Our class is very motivated and we think we will do well this year in the exciting Summer Tournament.
